Kat Johnson has been in public education for over 35years, with 20 years as Director of Bands at Garrett Middle School in the Cobb County (GA) School District. Her experience with marching band, drum corps, color guard, and winter guard has spanned over forty years as a performer, instructor, director, and adjudicator. Prior to accepting the position at Garrett, Ms. Johnson was the Director of Bands for high school and middle school programs in Louisiana, Alabama, and in the greater Atlanta area. Although originally from Los Angeles, Ms. Johnson graduated from South Natchez-Adams High School in Natchez, Mississippi and received her Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in Lafayette, Louisiana. Ms. Johnson currently holds professional affiliations with the National Association for Music Education, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the Gulf Coast Judges Association.
