James Dekle (West Lafayette, IN) has over 20 years of professional experience in music and currently serves as the Artist-in-Residence and Music Director at the Purdue University Black Cultural Center. In this role, Dekle serves as the choral director for the Black Voices of Inspiration Choir and is the founding director of the Purdue Express, a performance-based recruitment ensemble. Dekle also serves as an instructor of music in the Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts. Additionally, Dekle serves as the Worship Arts Director at Second Baptist Church in Lafayette, Indiana.

Dekle received a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida; a Master of Music Education from Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina; and a Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
