David Maccabee
David Maccabee (Las Vegas, NV) brings more than four decades of experience in music education and the marching arts to his work as a clinician, consultant, conductor, and adjudicator. His career has included extensive experience as a performer, director, program developer, clinician, and evaluator, providing him with a broad perspective on the many elements that contribute to successful marching band performance.
Maccabee served as Director of the United Township High School Marching Band from 1986 to 2016, establishing the program as one of Illinois’s most highly regarded competitive marching ensembles. During his tenure, United Township was a consistent finalist at the Illinois State University High School Marching Band Championships, earning numerous finalist appearances and capturing six Class Championships. The program also achieved distinction as a Bands of America Regional Finalist and Grand National Semifinalist.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the marching arts, Maccabee was inducted into the State of Illinois Invitational High School Marching Band Championship Hall of Fame in 2024. Maccabee was also elected to the prestigious American Bandmasters Association in 2000 and was named Phi Beta Mu Bandmaster of the Year in 2014.
Following his distinguished Illinois career, Maccabee relocated to Nevada where he served as a music educator at Palo Verde High School, before moving on to teach at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, one of Nevada’s premiere arts education institutions, where he retired from full-time classroom teaching in 2024.
He continues to serve as a consultant to Las Vegas Academy, as well as many other band programs in the Las Vegas community. Maccabee also continues to be a marching band and concert band consultant and adjudicator for numerous programs, competitions, and festivals throughout the country. Maccabee is honored to continue contributing his experience to this wonderful activity.
