Chester B. Phillips (Atlanta, Georgia) is the Dean of the College of the Arts at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to his current position, he served as Director of the School of Music at Georgia State and was a band director for over 20 years at middle school, high school, and collegiate levels. His ensembles received honors and accolades, including the Sudler Flag of Honor; performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 57th Presidential Inaugural Parade, and the Rose Parade; a national top-ten honor by the 2013 College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA); and a top-five honor by the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Southern Division of CBDNA.
As a clinician, Dr. Phillips has presented at numerous state music education conferences, The Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Music for All Summer Symposium, Bands of America (BOA) Regional Championships, College Band Directors National Association, Drum Corps Japan, and Rauman Poikasoittokunta (Youth Band) in Rauma, Finland. Dr. Phillips is a judge for Drum Corps International, BOA, and winter guards, as well as a visual designer of over 250 marching band and winter guard productions.
