Ben Maughmer

Ben Maughmer (Euless, TX) is a percussionist/musician from the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. In 2023, he retired from full time teaching in the state of Texas after nearly 30 years of service. Maughmer is proud to remain active as a consultant for the L.D Bell band program as well as servicing multiple school districts throughout the state and country.
Prior to working in HEB ISD, Maughmer taught for seventeen years in the Birdville ISD, the last 11 years of which were as Associate Director of Bands at Haltom High School.
As a performer and instructor, Maughmer has accumulated 42 years of drum corps experience, 12 DCI world championships, and four Fred Sanford high percussion titles. Maughmer is beginning his twenty-second year teaching the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps, where he assists in the coordination of the music ensemble as well as instruction of the percussion section. Prior to joining the Blue Devils instructional staff in 2005, Maughmer served on the instructional staff of the Bluecoats from 2003 to 2005, The Cavaliers from 2001 to 2003, and the Blue Knights from 1992 to 1998.
He earned his Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of North Texas where he performed with the world champion UNT drum line for three years.
Maughmer’s professional affiliations have included Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, and the Percussive Arts Society. He is an active clinician, judge and arranger in the United States, Japan, and China for marching band and drum corps. In 2013, 2016, and 2025, Maughmer traveled to China to serve as a judge and clinician, training the top marching programs as well as the People’s Liberation Army and Navy percussionists.
He serves as a judge for WGI, UIL, BOA, and many other circuits around the country.
