Jennifer Barton
Jennifer Barton (Spartanburg, SC), a native of Greenwood, Indiana, retired in 2022 from full time color guard directing after a more than 20-year career in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia and Texas, working with numerous scholastic and independent performing ensembles, including Rouse H.S., James Bowie H.S., Byrnes H.S., East Coweta H.S., Origins Winter Guard, The Cast Winter Guard, Etude Winter Guard, Pacific Crest Drum Corps, Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, and Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. As a performer, Barton has appeared with Santa Clara Vanguard and Northeast Independent Winter Guard (Florida). She has also performed with the Florida State University Marching Chiefs, Ad Astra per Aspera Winter Guard, and CrownGUARD, as well as numerous band and orchestra ensembles in Indiana and Florida.
Barton earned her bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from Florida State University in 2004, where she studied flute with Stephanie Jutt and Eva Amsler. She participated in Marching Chiefs, Concert and Symphonic Bands, Harmonie Chamber Ensemble, Tau Beta Sigma, and Golden Key and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies.
Barton serves nationally as a national fall visual judge and a winter multi-caption judge. She serves as the Education Coordinator for the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association and previously served on classification and education committees for TCGC and CWEA. Barton is also an adjudicator for Drum Corps International as a Visual Proficiency and Color Guard Judge, and Winter Guard International as a Design Analysis Judge. Currently, Barton lives in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and works at New Groove Artisan Brewery as Events, Merchandise, and Membership Coordinator, and works freelance to consult, choreograph, and design for clients nationwide–working both in-person and virtually to provide color guard and winds choreography, costume and flag design, and other design services.
