Dr. Ashley Summerlin works for Carmel Clay Schools in Carmel, Indiana where she serves as the Middle School Percussion Director, Assistant Director of the Carmel High School Percussion Ensemble, and Front Ensemble Educator for the Carmel High School Marching Greyhounds. Ashley also maintains a large private lesson studio.
The Carmel High School Percussion Ensemble recently performed at the 2023 Midwest Clinic where they played a wide span of percussion ensemble music including multiple commissions and two world premieres. Previous to Midwest, the ensemble presented a clinic at the 2023 IMEA conference highlighting the program’s well-rounded percussionist approach to percussion education.
In addition to her responsibilities at Carmel, Ashley is a Front Ensemble Educator for Rhythm X and the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. The Cavaliers are the 2023 Fred Sanford High Percussion Award winners in Drum Corps International. Previous to Carmel, Rhythm X, and the Cavaliers, Ashley has worked with the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, Connexus Independent, Worthington City Schools, Westerville Indoor Percussion Ensemble, and Rhythm X Winds.
Ashley completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance at The Ohio State University where she studied under Dr. Susan Powell and Mr. Joseph Krygier. Her doctoral research centered around creating a repertoire guide of four-mallet keyboard solo literature from the beginning player through high school graduation.
Ashley lives in Indianapolis, IN with her husband Lane. In her free time, she enjoys traveling to see concerts and sporting events.
