Daniel ”Chip” Wood (Seminole, FL), a native Floridian, is in his 31st year of teaching music K-12, and currently is in his sixth year as the Director of Bands at George M. Steinbrenner High School in Lutz, Florida (Tampa Bay). The band recently performed in the 2024 London New Year’s Day Parade. He was previously the band director at East Lake High School, Seminole High School, and Seminole Middle School. In addition, Wood also taught elementary school music and high school orchestra. Furthermore, he was an event manager and sales associate for the Brightspark/WorldStrides student travel company. He was also the event manager for the Tampa Bay Outback Bowl and team member for several music festivals across the country.
Wood served as the Director of Bands of the nationally recognized Seminole High School Band Program for 14 years, in which they competed and performed on the regional, national, and international level, with two Tournament of Roses Parade appearances, a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade appearance, and the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Special on ABC. The program was a consistent finalist at all BOA Regionals, a four-time BOA Grand Nationals Semifinalist, a consistent Winter Guard WGI World Championship Finalist, an FFCC Championships Winter Guard and Percussion medalist, and a three-time FMBC State Class 4A/5A Champion.
Wood attended the University of South Florida, where he studied with Robert McCormick and Jerry Junkin, and graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor of Music Education, where he studied with Dr. Mark Spede and Dr. David Waybright. Furthermore, Wood was an instructor of the Suncoast Sound, Magic of Orlando, and Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps. He has been awarded as a Pinellas County Teacher of the Year finalist, PCMEA Music Teacher of the Year, an Florida Marching Band Championships Hall of Fame recipient, and a FMEA 2025-2026 Music Education Service Award recipient. Wood resides in Seminole, Florida, with his lovely wife, Kay, and their musically gifted son, Connor.
