The Inspired Conductor: Connecting Students to Music, Emotion, and Meaning
Friday, April 11, 2025
2:00-2:50
Jackson CD
This interactive session explores how conductors can go beyond technique to become artistic guides—helping students form powerful emotional connections to the music, the composer, and each other. With live conducting demonstrations and opportunities for audience participation, attendees will explore how gesture, rehearsal language, and interpretive choices can lead to more meaningful and expressive performances.
At its core, conducting is about connection—between conductor, ensemble, composer, and audience. In The Inspired Conductor, Jeff Grogan shares practical strategies and artistic insights to help conductors lead with intention, imagination, and emotional depth. Students from the Hume-Fogg Academic High School Orchestra, directed by Anna Maria A. Miller, will serve as a live lab ensemble. Select participants will be invited to conduct the group and receive instant coaching and feedback, making this an active, hands-on learning experience for all. Together, we’ll explore how inspired conducting can empower students and elevate the music.
