Rene Lira is entering his 26th year in teaching and is in his first year as the Associate Band Director at Rowlett High School in Rowlett, TX.  Prior to joining the team at RHS, Mr. Lira served for 12 years as the head director at Coyle Middle School, also in Rowlett TX. During his time at CMS, Mr. Lira received superior ratings at state UIL concert and sight-reading contests. In addition, the Coyle Honors Band has received first division ratings at invitational contests throughout the DFW area. 

A native of San Antonio, TX, Mr. Lira graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education. His career began in 1994 with stops at New Braunfels High School, Greenville Middle School, and North Garland High School. Mr. Lira has also been a clinician for the Dallas Winds Camp as well as guest clinicians at a variety of band programs throughout the area.  

Mr. Lira has lead professional development workshops at both the district and state level, most revolving around technology in the classroom. These include webcasting classes, musical software, use of Chromebooks and iPads in music classes, and the integration of online resources in the classroom.    

Mr. and Mrs. Lira reside with their family in Rowlett TX. They are the proud parents of their daughter, Raegan, a sophomore at Texas A&M University and their son Ryan, a sophomore at Rowlett HS.
