Master Gunnery Sergeant Billy Rulapaugh is the Musician Placement Director for “The Commandant’s Own” United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps. He began his professional musical career with the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps in 1994, serving as a snare drummer. During his time in the percussion section he also served as Public Affairs Chief, Snare Drum Section Leader, Assistant Percussion Section Head, and Percussion Section Head/Percussion Arranger from 2004-2013. Throughout his performance career, he has performed more than 15,000 ceremonies for millions of people worldwide. Most notable of these performances include Queen Elizabeth the II’s Golden Jubilee in Edinburgh, Scotland, the Gotemba Music Festival in Tokyo, Japan and the 50th anniversary of Sultan Qaboos’ rule in Oman.  In his current role as Musician Placement Director, he has represented the Marine Music Program and the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps in hundreds of leadership presentations across the Continental United States to include MFA’s Summer Symposium and Drum Corps International’s Director’s Summit. Prior to his service in the Marine Corps, Billy was a member of the Magic Drum & Bugle Corps (1991 & 1992) and the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (1994.) Currently stationed at Marine Corps Recruiting Command, Quantico, Billy lives in Stafford, Virginia with his wife Lisa and their five children. In his off-duty time he volunteers in the community as the Scoutmaster for Scouts BSA Troop 121 and The Rappahannock Swim League.
