Matt McCready (Tulsa, OK) Matt stubbornly began his journey in music education with piano lessons around age 5. This led to him starting on trombone in elementary band and ultimately evolved into his career as a band director and music educator. Considering that his mother was an elementary general music teacher, and both his father and uncle were band directors, he seemed destined to get into the “family business.” Matt owes his career to those that have mentored, shared, encouraged, advised, directed, and generally taught him everything he knows over the course of his career.

McCready is currently the Director of Fine Arts for Union Public Schools in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Prior to his appointment as Fine Arts Director, he served as the Director of Bands at Union and, prior to that, at Blue Valley Northwest High School in the Kansas City area. McCready maintains an active schedule around the country as a clinician, adjudicator, conductor, and musician. Matt is a two-time graduate of The University of Kansas, earning both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education. He wrapped up his collegiate education by completing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Oklahoma State University.

McCready is an avid Kansas Jayhawks, KC Chiefs, and KC Royals fan, cheering them to multiple national/world championships of late! He just completed the goal of visiting all 50 states and is currently searching for his next travel goal. Matt is also grateful to work in the same district as his wife, Amy, who is the Director of Adult Education for the Union District.
