Mandy Funderburk (Nashville, Tennessee) is in her 11th year of teaching orchestra in Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and is currently teaching at Meigs Academic Magnet Middle School.

Funderburk studied double bass as her primary instrument and received a bachelor’s degree in music education from Towson University as well as a master’s degree in music education from Middle Tennessee State University. She has worked as a clinician for regional honors orchestras, including events for Williamson County Schools and the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association. She has served as the Middle Tennessee representative for the Tennessee chapter of the American String Teachers Association (TnASTA) and is currently an orchestra representative for the Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association.

Funderburk is a two-time recipient of the CMA Music Teacher of Excellence award in 2016 and most recently in 2023. She was chosen as the 2018-2019 Bellevue Middle School Teacher of the Year and selected as a finalist for the 2018-2019 MNPS District Middle School Teacher of the Year. Additionally, she was voted as the TnASTA Teacher of the Year in 2019 and MNPS Blue Ribbon Teacher Award recipient in 2016.

When she’s not teaching, Funderburk enjoys playing gigs around Nashville on electric and double bass as well as exploring culinary scenes near and far.
