Larry Shane

Larry Shane (Wellington, FL) received his bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Miami in 1991 and his master’s degree in education from the University of Central Florida in 2004. He is a National Board Certified teacher who is currently in his 15th year as the Band Director at West Boca Raton High School (Boca Raton, Florida), with previous experience teaching high schools in both Florida and North Carolina. Over the last 35 years, his ensembles have consistently received superior ratings in all music performance assessments at both the district and state levels. In the spring of 2018, the West Boca Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Music for All National Festival held in Indianapolis. The Wind Ensemble also performed at the Music for All UCF-Orlando Concert Band Invitational in 2022 and 2025. The West Boca Band has traveled overseas a few times, with performances in the London New Year’s Day Parade in England (2016 and 2020) and the Rome New Year’s Day Parade in Italy (2024). Shane was honored by his peers as he was named “Teacher of the Year” at West Boca Raton High School during the 2016-2017 school year. He was also awarded the prestigious Oliver Hobbs Award by the Florida Bandmasters Association in 2024.
Outside of school, Shane has been on the music faculty of Carolina Crown as a brass instructor since 2006. During his tenure with the corps, Crown has won nine overall Jim Ott Awards for Best Brass Performance, as well as the 2013 Drum Corps International World Championship. Shane is a former soprano (trumpet) soloist with both the Florida Wave and the Blue Devils. He is also a former drum major and current Hall of Fame member of the University of Miami Band of the Hour. Shane lives in Wellington, Florida, with his beautiful wife Randi, and they are both very proud of their three children Zachary, Dylan, and Rebecca.
