Jon Shultz has served as the Director of Bands for the Lake Hamilton School District in Pearcy, Arkansas, since 2007. Prior to his position as Director of Bands, he worked six years as the district’s junior high band director. He began his career as the middle school director at Hot Springs Middle School in 1999. Currently, his responsibilities include directing the Marching Band and Wind Ensemble, along with overseeing the district’s instrumental music education program.
Mr. Shultz earned his bachelor’s degree from Henderson State University in 1999 and his master’s degree from Arkansas State University in 2012. In 2007, Mr. Shultz became a National Board-Certified Teacher (NBCT). Recognized as one of the top band programs in the country, the Lake Hamilton Powerband of Arkansas has been the 6A Arkansas State Marching Band Champion, a Bands of America Regional Finalist and Medalist, and a Winter Guard International Winter Winds World Championship Finalist, Medalist, and Class Champion. The band has placed in the top ten in their classification numerous times at the Bands of America Grand National Marching Championships and has been a National Semi-Finalist. The Lake Hamilton Band has earned 25 consecutive ASBOA Sweepstakes Awards, earned the ASBOA State Sweepstakes Awards in 2022, and is currently the 6A State Concert Honor Band.
Mr. Shultz has received multiple awards for his service to the students of Arkansas. He was the recipient of the Phi Beta Mu Outstanding Young Band Director Award for the 2004-05 school year; in 2010 the School Band and Orchestra magazine selected him as the “Director that Makes a Difference” for our state. In 2016, Henderson State University honored him as their Outstanding Distinguished Alumni. Along with these accolades, he has published articles in several music education journals; he has also presented professional development at over twenty local, state, and national band conferences. Mr. Shultz is sought after as a guest clinician and has conducted ensembles in Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Kentucky. He currently serves as chairman of the Arkansas State Marching Band and State Concert Band Committees. He has served on the Winter Guard International Winds Advisory Board and has also served as President of the Four States Bandmasters’ Association. Mr. Shultz is currently the Board Member-Elect for the ASBOA Executive Board. Mr. Shultz is a member of Phi Beta Mu, Phi Sigma Kappa, Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity, the Arkansas Bandmasters’ Association, the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association, and the Four-States Bandmasters’ Association. He and his wife Amy live in Hot Springs, Arkansas, with their six-year-old son, Weston.
