John Turner

John Turner (Mason, OH) Active in the pageantry arts since 1981 as a technician, caption head and visual designer, John Turner now serves as a clinician, consultant, and judge for competitions in all of the outdoor and indoor pageantry arts.
His instructional experience includes units from Northern Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana, notably with the Glassmen Drum & Bugle Corps through their repeat DCI World Class Finals appearances, the Pride of Cincinnati Winter Guard from inception through their first World Class Medal, and the Homestead High School Spartan Alliance Marching Band (Fort Wayne, IN) as perennial ISSMA State Finalists and six-time Class A Champions.
Turner provides visual adjudication for marching bands, color guards, indoor winds, and percussion competitions on regional and championships panels throughout the United States. Internationally, he has judged the Thailand World Music Championships, WGI UK Winds and Percussion Regional, and the Indonesia Drum Corps Championships.
Turner was Secretary/Treasurer for the Ohio Judges Association from the 1980s into the 1990s. He was Drum Corp International’s National Judge Administrator from 1997 through 1999. Since 2003, he has served DCI as the Open Class Judge Administrator, the Competition Steering Committee as Chair and, presently, Secretary, and as a DCI Contest Coordinator. Turner received DCI’s 2016 George Bonfiglio Director’s Award for Leadership, Service, and Effort.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and mathematics from the University of Kentucky.
