A teacher for over 30 years, Frank Troyka began his career in 1984 as an assistant band director in Richardson, Texas, at Forest Meadow Junior High School and Lake Highlands High School. In 1991, Frank moved to Houston where he taught in the Spring ISD as as assistant director to Philip Geiger at Westfield High School. It wasn’t until 1999 that Frank assumed his first position as the Director of Bands, joining the faculty at Cypress Falls High School in the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD. During his seven-year tenure, the Cypress Falls Band was a featured ensemble at The Midwest Clinic, the Music For All National Festival, and was the recipient of the Sudler Flag of Honor.

Frank made the move back to Richardson in the summer of 2006 when he assumed the role of Director of Bands and Coordinator of Fine Arts at L.V. Berkner High School. Over his nine-year tenure, the Berkner Mighty Ram Band advanced to the UIL State Marching Contest on each occasion and was selected as a finalist at three of the bi-annual appearances. In 2011, Berkner High School’s Symphonic Band I was a featured ensemble at The Midwest Clinic where it presented two world premier works for wind band in addition to serving as a demonstration group with renowned Berkner alumnus Frank Ticheli as conductor and presenter. The Berkner Band also earned 2nd Place in TMEA Honor Band competition in 2010 and again in 2012, and finished 5th Place in 2014.

Mr. Troyka is an active lecturer and clinician, presenting annual student leadership workshops in Texas and at numerous high schools and colleges throughout the United States. Since 2010, Frank has been a clinician for the Wind Bands Association of Singapore where he presents workshops for that country’s band directors and student leaders. He holds the position of Educational Consultant in the Division of Education at Conn-Selmer, Inc. and he is the coordinator of the “Generation Next” series of presentations for The Midwest Clinic.

Frank also has long history with the drum and bugle corps activity and is an alumnus of the 1980 Madison Scouts. In 2013, Frank began his association with the Blue Devils Drum & Bugle Corps and System Blue Live Events as a clinician and educational consultant. At the close of 2014, Mr. Troyka eagerly accepted the position of Director of Education for System Blue and now takes a leading role in that organization’s educational initiatives on an international scale.

Mr. Troyka was named Teacher of the Year at Cypress Falls High School for the 2002-2003 school year and received the 2010 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Sponsor Excellence Award for his leadership of the Berkner High School Band. In 2014, Frank was presented the Meritorious Achievement Award by the Texas Bandmasters Association. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Master of Music degree from Sam Houston State University. Mr. Troyka retired from public school education in 2014 and now enjoys a busy and aggressive consultation and clinic schedule.
