Daniel Malacon completed his first year as a Master’s student in Wind Band Conducting under the guidance of Dr. Eric Wilson at Baylor University. Daniel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Baylor University with an emphasis in clarinet studies. Not limited to clarinet, Daniel joined the saxophone studio at Baylor to study under Dr. Michael Jacobson in conjunction with his graduate studies. As a member of the Baylor Wind Ensemble and the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, he has performed at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference and the College Band Directors National Association Conference, as well in local campus concerts. Additionally, he was assistant-principal clarinet in the Waco Symphony Orchestra for the 2012-2013 season. Also, he has made numerous appearances with the Corpus Christi Symphony and Austin Civic Orchestras.

In the summer of 2013, Daniel was a finalist for the International Clarinet Association’s Solo Orchestral Excerpts Competition in Assisi, Italy. There, he was awarded 2nd place out of the six finalists from around the world. In the Summer of 2014, Daniel was awarded a Fellowship spot in the Art of Wind Band Teaching Symposium at the University of Minnesota. There, he was given the opportunity to work with conductors from around the country by the names of Dr. Craig Kirchhoff, Dr. Mallory Thompson, and Dr. Jack Stamp.

Daniel has been fortunate enough to study with many outstanding professors of clarinet and saxophone including, Dr. Richard Shanley, Dr. Jun Qian, Dr. Vanguel Tangarov, Dr. Michael Jacobson, Richardo Chavez, Alan Olson, and Philip May. Daniel is also a member of the Gamma Iota chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.
