Mark Nichols (Houston, Texas) is currently entering his third year at the Boston Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps. Before that, he was on the staff and the Brass Caption Head for Santa Clara Vanguard for 12 years. He is also currently the Associate Director of Bands at Clear Lake High School in Houston, Texas. His primary responsibilities include the Marching Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band Class. He attended the University of North Texas for both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music education, graduating summa cum laude. He also undertook postgraduate studies in instrumental conducting at Baylor University.
Prior to Clear Lake, Nichols worked at Brazoswood High School. He was also the Director of Bands at La Porte High School, where he was able to bring them their first Sweepstakes in over 20 years. He has also taught at Dickinson High School, Blue Valley West High School, Blue Valley High School, J.J. Pearce High School, and Parkhill Junior High School. While in Kansas, the Blue Valley West band was named the Kansas State Honor Band, performed at the Kansas Music Educators Association Convention, and was named a Mark of Excellence State Champion.
Before teaching at Vanguard, Nichols was on the brass staff of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.
Nichols spends his free time with his wife Krissa and their boys Riley, Blake, and Brady.
