Todd Tucker is in his 14th year as Director of Bands at Archbishop Alter High School in Kettering,Ohio. Since 2007, Todd has directed all aspects of the music department and band programs along with duties as the Fine Arts Department Chair. Since arriving at Alter, the program expanded from two extra curricular ensembles to full curricular wind, percussion and visual ensemble classes and co-curricular ensembles including the award winning marching band, wind ensemble, jazz ensemble, color guard, winter guard, percussion ensemble, and chamber ensembles.

Under Tucker’s direction, the Alter Marching Knights have become the musical ambassadors for Archbishop Alter High School. Under his guidance, the Marching Knights have been crowned Mid States Band Association Grand Champions seven times (2012-17 and 2019). The Alter Marching Knights have also been Bands of America Regional Finalists multiple times as well as Grand National Semi Finalists four times. As an extension of the pageantry arts, the Alter indoor performance ensemble is a WGI Winds Regional Class Champion and a World Championship class finalist in the inaugural season of WGI Winds. In addition, the Alter jazz ensemble keeps a busy community performance schedule and the visual program has developed a championship winter guard program with the Mid East Performance Association.

Prior to joining the Alter faculty, Tucker was the Assistant Director of Bands and Orchestra at Thomas Jefferson High School in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Tucker has also served on the teaching faculties of Brevard College, the University of Kentucky and Arizona State University where he taught saxophone, chamber music, woodwind methods and directed jazz ensembles along side mentors Miles Osland and Sam Pilafian.

As a performer and saxophonist, Tucker has been spotlighted with numerous feature performances at national conferences, appearances with the Lexington Philharmonic Orchestra (Lexington, KY), Victoria Symphony (Victoria, TX), the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and the Sarasota Pops Symphony (FL), as well as performances on National Public Radio’s Performance Today. Tucker is a past winner of the Coleman Chamber Music Competition (Pasadena, CA), a prestigious Gold Medal winner at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (South Bend, IN) and a semifinalist in the Concert Artist Guild International Competition in New York City.

Mr. Tucker attended the University of Kentucky where he studied with Miles and Lisa Osland and Arizona State University where he studied with Joseph Wytko and Sam Pilafian.
