Cheryl Lee is the newly appointed Assistant Professor of Music at Tulsa Community College in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she leads a thriving concert and jazz program. Prior to this opportunity, she was Director of Bands at Anderson High School in Austin, Texas. In her short time at Anderson, she started a curricular jazz program and started the Austin Area Jazz Festival. Under her direction, the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band received Superior ratings both on stage and in the sight reading categories at UIL. 

Before moving to Texas, Cheryl served as the Director of Bands at Blue Valley West High School in Overland Park, Kansas. Under her leadership, the program more than doubled in size, with each distinct branch experiencing success and growth. The Competitive Marching Band won back to back KBA State Championships in 2017 and 2018. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at KMEA in 2015 and 2018 and the MFA National Concert Band Festival in 2016. Jazz Ensemble 1 earned first or second place at the University of Kansas Jazz Festival starting in 2015, performed as a featured ensemble at the KMEA conference in 2018 and performed at the 2020 JEN conference in New Orleans. BlueValley West also hosted several festivals annually, including a Percussion Festival and Concert Band Festival.

Cheryl’s experience in the marching arts spans over 20 years. She performed with the Crossmen in 2003 and 2004 and has spent many summers teaching ever since, most recently serving as Brass Caption Head for the Cavaliers in 2024. Cheryl was a director for the Pride of Broken Arrow from 2004-2009 and again in 2012. In addition, she was selected to serve on the Music for All Tournament of Roses Parade All-National Honor Band Staff in 2021. She is a National Board Certified Teacher and an adjudicator and clinician for Music for All.
