Dr. Joseph Lulloff (East Lansing, Michigan) is a Yamaha and Vandoren Performing Artist who maintains a prolific performance career as a soloist, chamber musician, and member of the acclaimed Capitol Quartet. Internationally, Lulloff’s artistry is renowned for his high energy, musical intensity, and effortless virtuosity in classical and jazz idioms. A recipient of the Concert Artists Guild Award and the Pro Musicis International Soloist Award, Lulloff has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Disney Hall, the Cortona Sessions, the Smithsonian Institute, and the Ojai, Lucerne, Mid Europe and Ravinia Festivals.
Lulloff has been a featured guest soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Brevard Chamber Music Festival Orchestra under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, United States Air Force Band, United States Navy Band, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the Dallas Winds. Lulloff holds numerous world premiere performances and commissions to his credit, including collaborations with Steven Bryant, David Biedenbender, Zack Browning, Dorothy Chang, Donald Freund, Stacy Garrop, John Harbison, John Anthony Lennon, David Maslanka, Carter Pann, and Charles Ruggiero. Alumni of his saxophone studio have succeeded in various performance and pedagogical fields, from performing with the nation’s top military bands to teaching at notable music schools and universities throughout the country.
Lulloff is a Professor of Saxophone at Michigan State University, where he received the Beal Distinguished Faculty Award and the Withrow Award for Excellence in Teaching. Lulloff serves on the faculty of the Brevard Music Center Summer Music Institute in North Carolina and the Great Plains Saxophone Workshop in Oklahoma.
