James Morrison has been a director in the Broken Arrow Band program since 2013. He conducts the Freshman Academy Wind Ensemble, is on staff with the Pride of Broken Arrow Marching Band, assists with music instruction at Oliver Middle School, and serves as Director of Bands at the Broken Arrow Freshman Academy. Prior to coming to Broken Arrow, Mr. Morrison served in the Berryhill, Hominy and Olive public schools in Oklahoma. Mr. Morrison’s bands have received numerous Superior ratings and Sweepstakes awards over the years. He was honored to be the 2012 Oklahoma Music Educators Association Exemplary Teacher Award winner, is a past president of the Oklahoma Bandmaster’s Association, and was the 2012 Berryhill Public Schools Teacher of the Year. Mr. Morrison is an active clinician and adjudicator in the state of Oklahoma. Mr. Morrison is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and the University of Akron. He served as the Instructor of Tuba at Oklahoma State University for 16 years, having held similar positions at the University of Arkansas and the University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory. Mr. Morrison has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Cleveland Youth Orchestra, the Tulsa Signature Symphony, Tulsa Ballet Orchestra and the Missouri Brass Quintet.
